Rufous-crowned Sparrow is found more regularly on Mount Magazine than anywhere else in the state. All serious Arkansas birders eventually go there, perhaps several times, to get their state and usually life Rufous-crowned Sparrow. For the past several winters birders have also gone to Mount Magazine to see Townsend’s Solitaire.

We enjoyed our walk to the top of Signal Hill, the highest point in Arkansas, where we encountered a pair of brilliant, male Scarlet Tanagers. Don’t miss the feeders at the Mount Magazine State Park visitors center.
