Bald Eagle is the signature species of Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge. It is the refuge resident that birders and non-birders alike come to see. But Holla Bend offers many treasures. Among those we have personally enjoyed are Common Ground-Dove, Golden Eagle, Trumpeter Swan, Greater Roadrunner, Barred Owl, and Wild Turkey. Short-eared Owl is often seen at dusk. A Harris’s Sparrow was reported on the 2007 Christmas Bird Count. The 1st state record Gray Kingbird was found at the refuge in the spring of 2007. The adjacent Carden Bottoms is also a worthy birding destination. Listen for Western Meadowlark.
