Shorebirds, waders, and ducks are the specialties at Bald Knob National Wildlife Refuge. The more common species often number in the hundreds, sometimes in the thousands.

Among the less common birds seen at Bald Knob are Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Upland Sandpiper, Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, Wood Stork, Roseate Spoonbill, American Bittern, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Peregrine Falcon, Nelson's Sparrow, and Neotropic Cormorant.
