Spotted Sandpiper

To avoid copyright issues we neither copy nor alter Macaulay Library videos. We simply collect in one convenient location links to web pages containing our choice of the best freely available recordings for each species.

Experienced birders often use GISS (General Impression of Size and Shape) to make an initial cut at identification. GISS and observation of the bird’s movement (dip/swish tail, walk/hop, flight direct/undulating, ...) and habitat, allow identification of many birds, like this Spotted Sandpiper, without detailed inspection of plumage. Studying video is an excellent way to develop skill in the use of these alternative techniques. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology Macaulay Library boasts a large collection of bird videos. Below are links to videos of as many of Arkansas’ birds as are available.
